Run a San Bernardino Resident Lookup

Build a chain rather than trusting a single name hit. Start with what you already have, such as a full name, an address, or a case number, then choose the record keeper who can test it. County property and voter systems answer different questions. The Superior Court party index adds case context. Vital-record rules separate informational copies from authorized certified copies. State license and business indexes confirm a public role without proving residence. A careful San Bernardino resident lookup compares two independent facts and stops at protected records.

San Bernardino Resident Lookup Records

A useful name search starts by matching the question to the custodian. The Assessor-Recorder-County Clerk keeps several record lanes, but an address search and a party-name search are not the same task. Court, vital, voter, business, license, and custody systems each have their own access rules. The table shows what a result can confirm before a search begins.

Business or licenseEntity, agent, professional status, or public affiliationCalifornia SOS, DCA, board portalsUseful corroboration; a business address is not a home
CustodyFacility or booking identity at the time of the resultCounty Sheriff or CDCR locatorFree public lookup; custody is not conviction

Use the strongest clue first. A case number can go straight to CAP. A known San Bernardino event may first be with ARC or County Public Health. A professional name can be tested against a license board. If the goal is a whole street, move to the address workflow in the San Bernardino street directory. Treat every result as a lead until a second fact agrees.

Note: A resident lookup becomes defensible when two independent facts agree on the same name, date, role, or parcel.

San Bernardino Resident Name Checks

Same-name collisions are the main risk in a one-person name search. San Bernardino records may use a middle initial, former or married name, compound-surname part, space, or hyphen. Test variants, but preserve the custodian's indexed spelling. A city match alone is not enough. Join records with two independent facts.

  1. Define the target. Note the full name, likely year band, known city, relationship, and lawful reason. Separate surname parts instead of assuming each system stores them alike.
  2. Test name forms. Try the full name, initials, spacing and hyphen variants, and plausible former or married names. Save each indexed spelling.
  3. Anchor the name. Prefer an APN, document, case, or license number, spouse, business, or narrow date. An address clue does not prove every occupant.
  4. Read the role. A court plaintiff, defendant, petitioner, respondent, witness, or attorney is not the same kind of match. Distinguish a business agent from a proprietor or resident.
  5. Require two facts. Match the name with a record-specific fact. Staff can explain retrieval by number, but should not disclose protected facts by phone.

A missing result may reflect another name, another county, or a sealed or confidential category. None licenses a guess.

San Bernardino Property Records Connection

ARC Parcel Access is the address-to-person starting point when a property clue is available. Search the situs address, select the parcel, and note the APN, legal description, and mailing-versus-situs difference. The result supplies an ownership-linked parcel and correspondence clue. It does not establish title, current occupancy, or a complete household.

With an APN or named party, switch to the recorder search. Its index is keyed to document parties, not a street-address owner search. Use the name, role, title, recording date, or document number. Online access is an index; document contents may require an order or inspection at the Hall of Records or High Desert Government Center. Historical assessment rolls run from 1978 forward, but they are not residence history.

Situs address
The address tied to the parcel or place, distinct from a mailing destination.
APN
The assessor parcel number that helps connect a parcel card to later record requests.
Legal description
The formal land description that can bridge a changed street name or address.
Mailing clue
A correspondence destination shown with an assessment record, not proof that the named person lives there.

Use the connection to narrow a name search, not to fill private gaps. An owner, mailing address, and household may all differ.

Note: An APN can anchor a person search to land, but it cannot prove present occupancy or household membership.

San Bernardino Court Lookup Fields

The Superior Court of California, County of San Bernardino handles civil, criminal, traffic, family, probate, juvenile, and related state matters. CAP became the primary online case-information portal in October 2022. It is a state-court index, not an identity service. Data for cases filed before 1998 is limited, so a missing web hit does not prove an older file never existed.

CAP field or modeUse and access note
Case NumberMost precise direct lookup; format varies by division and is generally free.
Party or Name SearchName workflow; credits or other fees can apply.
First, Middle, Last, or Business NameTest initials and variants; the index spelling controls the match.
Date of BirthConditional and restricted to case types where criminal identification permits it.
Case Type or CategoryNarrows the public category exposed in CAP; permissions vary.
CalendarProvides date and courtroom navigation.
Search or ResetTerms must be accepted before access; controls start or clear the search.

CAP offers case information, calendars, payments, and document sales. Federal cases in the Central District of California, Eastern Division, use PACER instead. PACER charges $0.10 per page with a $3 cap for many documents and may waive fees when a quarterly bill is $30 or less, subject to current policy. The systems and fee paths are separate.

Online name searches are only one route. The court's public-file guide supports online access, an in-person visit to the filing district, and a written copy request. Larger districts use Document Control; smaller districts use the clerk window. Older files may be off-site, with up to one week allowed for delivery. Rule 10.500 administrative-record requests cover court administration, not case files.

San Bernardino Docket Records Explained

A CAP result needs a careful read. It can show case number, title, parties, filing date, status, events, hearings, register of actions, disposition, and public document-sale links, depending on case type. A name match is an index lead, not a criminal-history certification or identity guarantee. A filing or charge is not a judgment or conviction.

A sample result inventory separates identity clues from case substance:

  • Identity: case title and party names with plaintiff, defendant, petitioner, respondent, or decedent roles.
  • Placement: case number, filing court or district, and case type.
  • Dates: filing, hearing or event, status, and disposition dates when entered.
  • Substance: register of actions, hearings, disposition, and public document links.
  • Limits: juvenile, sealed, confidential family or adoption material, victim or witness data, protected identifiers, and much pre-1998 detail can be hidden.
Docket
The court's running index of a case, including filed events, hearings, and status entries.
Index versus image
An index gives searchable entry data. An image is the underlying document, which may require purchase, office inspection, or clerk retrieval.
Certified copy
A copy formally certified by the custodian for an authorized use, rather than an ordinary screen print.

Copies cost $0.50 per side. Certification is generally $40 per document, while a certified family-law judgment is $15. A written request should name the case number and exact documents and include a self-addressed stamped envelope. Rule 10.500 administrative-record requests cover court administration, not case files.

Note: A docket entry describes a case record; it does not by itself establish the outcome, identity, or truth of an allegation.

San Bernardino Vital Records Requests

Vital custody depends on the event and copy. County Public Health is the local registrar for current-year and one-year-prior birth and death events. ARC holds San Bernardino births and deaths for available years and marriages licensed in the county. CDPH is the statewide custodian, and its county-registrar guide explains the division. A divorce decree comes from Superior Court; CDPH can issue a certificate of record for covered years, not the full decree.

California does not use a blanket cutoff for open certificates. An informational birth, death, or public-marriage copy may generally be requested by anyone, but it is marked not valid to establish identity. An authorized certified copy requires a statutory relationship, sworn statement, and notarization for mail. Confidential marriage records are limited to a party or court order under Family Code section 509. Adoption files and original birth records remain sealed except through the required process.

County form field or choiceWhat the request must establish
Certificate typeBirth, death, or marriage; use one application per record.
Copy typeAuthorized certified or informational; this controls the eligibility path.
Name and eventName, event date, place, and San Bernardino County connection.
Family fieldsParent or spouse names, adopted choice, and public or confidential marriage choice as applicable.
Requester detailsName, address, phone, purpose, relationship, copies, payment, signature, and sworn statement when required.

The county mail form lists $34 for birth, $26 for death, and $19 for marriage. The fee is retained when no record is found, with a Certification of Search issued. Mail the original form and payment to 222 W. Hospitality Lane, 1st Floor, San Bernardino, CA 92415-0022. In-person service is available at the Hall of Records and Hesperia. Online orders add service charges, can take 2 to 3 weeks, and add 3.5% for card payment. From July 1, 2026, county mail charges are $3.50 standard or $29 priority.

CDPH's 2026 fees are $31 for birth, $26 for death, $19 for marriage, and $18 for a divorce certificate. State mail requests use a check or money order payable to CDPH Vital Records from a United States bank; cash is not accepted. For a recent birth or death, County Public Health is the fallback before ARC receives the record. A death certificate may reach ARC 30 to 60 days after death; a marriage certificate may be available about two weeks after the license is recorded.

The San Bernardino County vital-records page shows the application route that separates informational access from authorized certification.

That distinction matters when a name search finds a possible event but the requester needs a document with legal identity value.

San Bernardino Voter Lookup Rules

My Elections Gateway is authenticated self-service. It can return one's registration status and locations, districts, polling place, guide or sample ballot, mail or provisional ballot status, election information, and elected officials. It never reveals ballot choices. Voting history is currently unavailable online; the Registrar directs callers to 909-387-8300. California VoterStatus is a separate state self-lookup, not an open resident-name search.

The San Bernardino County My Elections Gateway information page identifies the authenticated path and its personalized result types.

The screenshot reflects a self-check, not permission to assemble a public list of named voters.

A different route exists for qualified voter-file users under Elections Code section 2194. The purpose must be election, scholarly, journalistic, political, or governmental. The application and resources page requires an original wet signature and explains mail or in-person delivery, Products and Services pricing, payment options, custom reports, and maps.

The county's registration and list-maintenance guidance distinguishes active, inactive, and cancelled categories. A status label is an administrative field, not a finding that a person moved or still occupies an address.

A qualified file may contain name, residence or mailing address, status, party preference, registration date, and precinct or district, subject to suppression. Driver or state ID, Social Security number, signature, protected contact or address data, and other protected fields are not general-public fields. The Registrar's office is at 777 E. Rialto Ave., San Bernardino, CA 92415-0770; call 909-387-8300 or 800-881-8683, or use VoterRegistrations@rov.sbcounty.gov. Email is checked Monday through Friday from 8 to 5.

San Bernardino License Records as Clues

Business and professional portals can verify an affiliation, public role, license status, or service address. They cannot turn an agent, licensee, or business address into proof of residence. Start with the California Secretary of State bizfile business search by name or entity number. Results can show status, jurisdiction, addresses, agent, and filing history. Free filing PDFs are available; certified copies and certificates follow the bizfile workflow.

For a county DBA, the San Bernardino Fictitious Business Names listing report covers statements filed since January 1, 2024, and a daily email report is available. The form captures the fictitious name, principal street and mailing addresses, registrant names or entity numbers, and ownership form. A post-office box or PMB is not accepted as the principal street address. The fee is $55 for one registrant and $5 for each added registrant or name.

The California State Bar Licensee Search demonstrates the name or bar-number route for a public professional record.

A bar status, admitted date, discipline entry, or contact address can corroborate a public affiliation, but it is not a residential record.

The California Contractors State License Board license search adds license, business, and personnel modes for a contractor record.

Use the result as an affiliation clue, then verify the person through a separate record type rather than treating a work address as a home.

San Bernardino Person Lookup Paths

A lawful search goal changes the best record trail. For an heir, search probate for the decedent, executor, spouse, children, or distribution, then match a recorded distribution deed to the exact parcel. Current probate is handled through the court; the county archives hold an older 1853 to 1926 probate collection. A later name should still be tested against a second source.

For a former classmate, a yearbook or newspaper entry can supply the first bridge. Corroborate a later name through lawful marriage sources or another public affiliation. For an adopted person or birth parent, use California's official adoption-information channel. Do not work around sealed adoption or original-birth files. A closed record is a boundary, not a search puzzle.

County custody and state custody. Custody records are another lane. The San Bernardino County Sheriff Inmate Locator covers county custody, while the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation locator covers state-prison custody by CDCR number or name. A result identifies a facility record at that time, not a conviction or final disposition. Check the Superior Court for the case.

The State Controller's unclaimed-property search can associate an older name with a city, but it does not prove current residence. California's Megan's Law registry is a statutory public-safety disclosure with its own scope and warnings, not a complete criminal or resident history.

San Bernardino Privacy Limits

Some missing results are intentional. California's Safe at Home program supplies a substitute mailing address, forwards first-class, registered, and certified mail at no cost, and can act as an agent for service of process. It supports confidential voter registration and possible DMV suppression or confidential name-change relief. It does not delete information already public. The substitute address can be requested on some real-property deeds; vital and divorce certificates are outside ordinary use of the designated address.

Voter home street address, phone, email, precinct or identifier, prior-registration information, driver or ID data, Social Security number, and signature are confidential except for limited authorized purposes. DMV residence addresses are confidential, and release requires statutory authority under federal and California rules. A protected voter, Safe at Home participant, sealed case, juvenile file, adoption file, or confidential marriage can break a name chain.

California's Delete Request and Opt-out Platform, DROP, launched for requests January 1, 2026. A resident creates a profile with name, date of birth, and ZIP as minimum fields, then sends one request to registered data brokers. Brokers begin processing August 1, 2026, access requests at least every 45 days, and may take up to 90 days. DROP affects commercial compilations, not a public source record.

When an online index has no answer, use the custodian's fallback. A focused request to the responsible department can identify an existing nonportal public record, while a court copy request goes to the filing district with the case number and exact documents. The California Public Records Act does not create one countywide resident file or bypass protected categories.

Corrections belong at the source. Send a signed APN-based address correction to the assessor, correct one's own voter registration through the Registrar, ask the court clerk about a court-index error, and use CDPH's amendment process for a vital record. A commercial profile can be corrected separately, but that does not rewrite the custodian's record.

Note: A protected or sealed record can explain a gap without proving that the person, event, or file never existed.

Lawful use. A San Bernardino resident search is for personal, lawful research. Do not use records to stalk, harass, threaten, or intimidate anyone; voter-file misuse and repeated unwanted contact can bring separate legal consequences.
